People who don't understand about the place mistakenly think that it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually it is this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. It is true that she was there for a brief duration. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. At the beginning of her life she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Once I outgrew male partners, that's when I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on to act. For Brugel it was because of the advice by her drama instructor in high school who pushed her to the path she required. She was encouraged to audition for a part in the school's production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the leading role for the role in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel has been performing in over 60 plays, smaller and large. Most notable was when she landed Rita's role on The Handmaid's Tale.
